Marrakech: a break in Morocco’s red city

Marrakech feels like a tale from the Arabian Nights: colourful souks, the scent of spices, the main square Jemaa el-Fnaa coming alive in the evening with storytellers, musicians and street cooks, and the snowy Atlas mountains in the background. A direct flight from Treviso takes about three and a half hours, making Marrakech ideal for a long weekend or a week. With Top 10 Putovanja you book your flight and hotel in one package. Below you will find what to see, where to go on trips, how to prepare and the hotels we recommend.

Why Marrakech

• Exotic yet close: a completely different world just a few hours’ flight away.
• Winter sun: around 18 to 20 °C even in December and January, with almost always clear skies.
• Short break: three or four nights are enough for a first taste of the city, a week for trips to the mountains and the desert.
• Affordable hotels: all-inclusive hotels with large pools and water parks at good prices.
• All in one package: flight, hotel and, with many offers, airport transfer too.

Flights to Marrakech

Packages on our site include a direct flight from Treviso of about three and a half hours. Exact departures and prices, and whether luggage and the hotel transfer are included, are shown with each offer. Most hotels are a few kilometres from the medina, with taxis or a hotel shuttle to the centre.

What to do in Marrakech

• Jemaa el-Fnaa and the souks: the heart of the city and a maze of markets with spices, carpets, lamps and leather.
• Koutoubia: the city’s tallest minaret and the symbol of Marrakech.
• Bahia Palace and Ben Youssef Madrasa: stunning mosaics, carvings and courtyards.
• Majorelle Garden: the blue garden with cacti and the Yves Saint Laurent museum.
• Saadian Tombs and Le Jardin Secret: hidden corners of the medina.
• Hammam: a traditional Moroccan bath, perfect after a day in the souks.

Trips from Marrakech

• Atlas mountains and Ourika Valley: Berber villages and waterfalls, under an hour’s drive from the city.
• Agafay desert: camel rides and dinner under the stars, less than an hour from Marrakech.
• Essaouira: a seaside town with blue boats and a harbour, about three hours’ drive.
• Aït Ben Haddou: a UNESCO-listed fortified village known from many films, a full-day trip across the Atlas.

Practical tips

• A passport is required; citizens of Slovenia and Croatia do not need a visa.
• The currency is the dirham: exchange at the airport or withdraw at an ATM, as it cannot be taken out of the country.
• Bargaining is part of the fun in the souks; agree the taxi fare in advance.
• Clothing: modest dress with covered shoulders and knees is recommended in the medina.
• Sockets are European, no adapter needed.
• Ramadan 2027 is expected from about 8 February to 9 March. Restaurants for tourists stay open, but the pace is calmer.

Moroccan food

Try tagine (meat or vegetables slow-cooked in a clay pot), couscous, traditionally eaten on Fridays, pastilla (a sweet-savoury pie), harira soup, flat msemen pancakes and of course sweet mint tea. In the evening, grill stalls open on Jemaa el-Fnaa.

Marrakech with children

Children will love camel rides, the lively square and hotels with water parks such as Aqua Mirage, Targa and Iberostar. Outdoor pools are cold in winter, so the water parks are best from April to October. The medina is crowded and busy with scooters, so keep young children close; a baby carrier is more practical than a pushchair.
